I’m Audrey wÄÄnÄnEn, the creator × wanderer behind Wäänderland, a place where creativity knows no bounds and the unconventional finds its home. My journey into art and design began long before I had the words for it — learning to draw, sew, and embroider from my grandparents. At an early age, I was stitching together a world of my own, blending fashion, art, and storytelling in ways that felt second nature. Wäänderland is not just a name; it’s the embodiment of that legacy — a realm built to honor the talents passed down to me while forging my own path.
The word Väänä in Finnish means to twist, and much like Alice’s adventures, my path has never been linear. It has coiled through shadows, turned down forgotten corridors, and led me to unexpected places. Along the way, I lost some of my muchness until I found myself once again in Wäänderland.
I am drawn to the stories of those who have been called mad. The femme fatale, the tragic heroine, the vampire — figures who are feared, demonized, or cast aside for their defiance, their pain, their hunger. Women throughout history have been painted as unstable, dangerous, or hysterical simply for feeling too much, knowing too much, or refusing to fit into the roles carved out for them. Gothic horror and folklore have long held a mirror to these truths, revealing how madness is often a survival instinct — how the haunted house is sometimes the home we inherit.
I find inspiration in the whispers of forgotten tales, in mythology, and the ghosts of the past. I let these influences seep into my personal work, finding beauty in the eerie, poetry in the darkness, and transformation in the unknown.
Wäänderland is the space where all of these threads weave together — a world shaped by the strange, the surreal, and the stories that refuse to be forgotten. Here, art and design become vessels for the uncanny and the unseen, a way to make sense of the shadows and embrace the beauty within them. It is both a sanctuary and an invitation, a place where those who have ever felt like the outsider, the dreamer, the wanderer, can find something that speaks to them. Step inside, and let the madness unfold.
